Firefighter Robert White
Atlantic City Fire Department
Engine Company #6
March 13, 1933
A bandit shot and killed Atlantic City Firefighter Robert White of Engine Company #6 Firehouse located on Indiana and Grant Avenues.
Shortly after 10pm two men approached the grocery store of Samual Roth, opposite the fire station, and watched Roth walk into his apartment in the rear of the building. One of the men entered the store, snatched the cash register and started for the door.
White, who was going to the store to make a purchase, encountered the bandit, and placed him under arrest. The bandit then pulled a gun and fired three shots, one of them striking White in the heart, another in the stomach, and fled the scene.
White staggered back into the fire station, crying "I'm shot." to his fellow firemen, then slumped to the floor. He was taken to Atlantic City Hospital and was pronounced dead upon admittance.
Robert White was 32 years old and lived at 1903 Keener Avenue in Atlantic City.
