Police Officer Peter F. Egnor
Atlantic City Police Department
October 14, 1981

Police Officer Peter Egnor was only 20 years old and on the force just eighteen months when a gunman shot him to death. The gunman was also fatally wounded following a gunfight with police at the Albany Avenue Bridge on an early Wednesday morning. His assailant, a 35-year-old male from Chicago with an extensive arrest record, attempted to elude police after the victim of an armed robbery identified him. Heavily armed with assorted weapons, the perpetrator fired several shots at the pursuing police vehicles as he led them on a high-speed chase through Atlantic City. The chase ended after Officer Egnor's vehicle struck the fleeing car.  His parents, three brothers and five sisters survived him.
